1:1 Chromebook Initiative

District Supported 1:1 Plan

Vision: Create an equitable and sustainable model for technology-enabled classrooms that prepare students to thrive in a connected, digital world in alignment with the Jeffco Generations Strategic Plan.

As students start back for the 2021/22 school year, SIX grades (5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th) will do so with a district-issued device. These devices are part of a four-year plan, which began in 2019, to create technology-enabled classrooms in fifth through twelfth grades that prepare students to thrive in a digitally connected world in alignment with the Jeffco Generations Strategic Plan. Each autumn, every 5th and 9th grade student will be issued a district device that students will use over the course of four years as long as they are in Jeffco Public Schools.

Jeffco Public Schools 1:1 Initiative History

Jeffco Public Schools is committed to preparing students to be college and career ready; communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills are essential to thrive in the 21st century. Starting with the 2019-2020 school year and each year for the three years after, 5th and 9th grade students will receive devices from the district 1:1 program to use for educational purposes.

Families will pay an annual $50 fee which covers the device, staff support, tech support, digital learning tools, teacher professional learning, internet filtering, bandwidth, and community resources. If a student leaves JRLP, they are to return the device to the school and will get another one if transferring to another Jeffco school.

Having ongoing access to technology will allow our students to consistently practice and apply those 21st century skills, and prepare them for a variety of post-secondary options.

  1. Gives students real world technology experience and application needed for future careers and/or college.
  2. Encourages increased creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills through assignments that are not possible without technology.
  3. Allows teachers to differentiate lessons to meet students at various stages of learning.
  4. Enables teachers to collect instant data on student learning and immediately adjust instruction accordingly.
  5. Customizes learning through the use of a variety of technological tools.

Benefits of a District Managed Device

Classroom Management

One of the biggest concerns for families and teachers is ensuring the safety of students online and making sure students are actively engaged in class. All district-managed Chromebooks have software that allows teachers to monitor all student screens, turn all screens off in order to minimize distractions, and communicate with students individually while still instructing the entire class. A parent version of the software is available to assist families with device management at home. See the video for a demonstration.

Additional Benefits of District-Managed Devices:

  1. Annual fee of $50 to be paid in Infinite Campus
  2. Device will be managed by Jeffco for added security
  3. Wi-Fi automatically connects to the fastest network
  4. Educational apps can be pushed out to all student devices
  5. Students can take state-mandated tests on their device
  6. Students will keep their device over schools breaks and summers, making learning a year-round activity
  7. Equity and consistency for all teachers and students
  8. Schools receive digital learning tools, teacher professional development to instruct with those tools, internet filtering, bandwidth, and additional support
  9. If going to another Jeffco school, students may be able to take their device with them (or their new school may issue them a new device)

Leaving the District?

All TechforEd 1:1 devices must be returned with the charging cord and the case in which it was issued, sticker-free and in good condition. Below is a form that we'll attach to the device if you withdraw from Jeffco Public Schools.

NOTE: If you are moving schools within Jeffco, you may keep the same TechforEd device that you were issued, taking it to your new Jeffco school.
